CHURN DASH BLOCK TABLE TOPPERS

As you can see in the top photo, we have non-traditional shape end tables (yup, triangles). One day I will make some table toppers in that shape, but for now I decided to use the Churn Dash blocks I posted a couple of days ago.  This also gave me a chance to practice my stippling as you can see in the close-up.  I am so happy with how they turned out and how nice a traditional quilt block looks with our contemporary style furniture!

CHURN DASH BLOCKS

I've been wanting to make some small table toppers for my end tables. After looking through my quilting books, decided that it would be fun to try making Churn Dash blocks. I used a variety of  fabrics I purchased when I began quilting last year and made my very first table runner. Love these fabrics (which is good since I have lots of them to work with) and plan on making more of these blocks as well as others....just have to decide which to do next!

'QUICK CURVE' LAP QUILT

After seeing the fun designs by Jenny at Sew Kind of Wonderful that she creates with her Quick Curve ruler, I knew I just had to purchase one (besides...I love gadgets!). The ruler comes with instructions for a table runner, however, I wanted to play around with the blocks I made and came up with this...I turned what was to be a table runner into a lap quilt.  I used Thimbleberries Christmas fabric I purchased on clearance at one of my LQS...of course, not knowing what I was going to create with it, needed to order some more of the gold fabric online to use for backing...and can't wait for it to arrive so I can finish this project. The ruler was fun and very easy to use (thanks to the great instructions included, as well as video tutorials on Jenny's site). If you want to try adding curved blocks to your projects, this is definitely the way to go!!! Thank you Jenny for designing this great 'gadget'!!!

MY CLASS PROJECT

I recently posted a picture of the block I made for the first quilt class I was going to be taking (using the Quiltsmart method...a link to their site can be found here).  My friend and I really enjoyed the class last week and this is the table topper I made (I just have to find some time to quilt it).  I actually finished this topper before the class (just couldn't wait...so I was able to help my friend work on hers while we were there). The fabrics are all batiks...the red border does blend in with the bed comforter but it was the only place I could take a pic of it easily. The instructor was great...and since we took the class, we were given a discount for anything we purchased in the quilt store that evening...lots of fun and lots of goodies brought home.
